Over the weekend of August 23-24, Troop 55’s scouts went backpacking and camping at Sweet Run State park, along with Kayaking along the Potomac River.

Sign up for August 2025 Outing – Backpacking & Kayaking on the Potomac River
When: Saturday, August 23rd to Sunday, August 24th
When/Where: Meet at 8AM on Saturday August 23rd at St. Francis Episcopal Church and return to Great Falls Library on Sunday August 24th at 12:00pm
We will meet at St. Francis and drive less than an hour to Sweet Run state park near Harper’s Ferry. We will do light backpacking for about a mile and set up camp. We will then drive 20 minutes to Brunswick family campground for a guided kayak trip for several miles on the Potomac River. This is calm water and the same trip we did last year. We will finish kayaking early in the evening and return to Sweet Run state park to camp overnight.
Scouts and adults participating in the kayaking trip must bring a signed waver form the morning of the outing. The form can be found on the Scoutbook website linked below, as well as further information. Make sure to also RSVP with your status for the outing, also through the Scoutbook website linked below.

Sign up for May 2025 Outing – Backpacking Mason Neck State Park
When: Saturday, May 24 to Sunday, May 25
When/Where: Meet at 7:30AM on Saturday May 24th at St. Francis Episcopal Church and return to Great Falls Library on Sunday May 25th about 2:00PM.
Scouts will enjoy backpacking along a three-mile moderate trail to a primitive group campsite along the Potomac River at Mason Neck State Park outside of Lorton, Virginia. We’ll camp one night and hike back the next morning.

Sign up for April 2025 Outing – Gettysburg Battleground Camp and Hike
When: , April 26 to April 27, 2025
When/Where: Meet at 6:30AM on Saturday April 26th at St. Francis Episcopal Church and return to Great Falls Library on Sunday April 27th about 2:00PM.
Scouts will enjoy camping at Camp Tuckahoe, a Scout Camp near the Pennsylvania/Maryland border and hiking the Gettysburg Heritage Trails and touring the battleground and museum.

Sign up for March 2025 Outing – Assateague Island National Seashore!
When: March 29 – 31, 2025
Where: Assateague Island National Seashore Campground, Berline, Maryland
Time: Arrive at St. Francis at 6:30am on Saturday, March 29th; Return to Great Falls Library around noon on Monday, March 31st.
Scouts will enjoy camping at Site G-2 at Assateague Island National Seashore starting Saturday afternoon, and participating in fun beach sports and other activities.
Sign up for February 2025 Outing – Camping/Ice Skating
When: February 15-16, 2025
Where: Camp William B. Snyder, Reston Town Center Ice Skating Pavilion
Time: Arrive at St. Francis at 10:00am on Saturday, Feb 15th; Return to Great Falls Library around noon on Sunday, Feb 16th.
Scouts will enjoy camping at Camp Snyder in Haymarket, VA starting Saturday afternoon after ice skating at the Reston Town Center Ice Skating Pavilion.

Register Now For Jan. 2025 Ski Outing!
When: Jan 31-Feb 2, 2025
Where: Whitetail Mountain, Mercersburg, PA
Lodging: Joy El Camp & Retreats, Greencastle, PA
Time: Meet at the St. Francis parking lot at 6:30 PM Friday, Jan 31, returning around noon on Sunday, Feb. 2nd.
Scouts will enjoy skiing/snowboarding at Whitetail Mountain resort in Mercersburg, PA. on Saturday. The troop will spend Friday and Saturday night at Joy El Camp and Retreats in group cabins – about 25 min from Whitetail Resort. Click here to Register and see all the Details!
